La Raza Rises Up

Immigration Reform Proposal Awakens Latinos
by Sean Patrick Rodriguez

Hola
It seems that some people out there in America want to deport the estimated 11 million illegal Latino immigrants now living in the United States of America. What a collective action problem to say the least. How do you go about apprehending the lot of them? Where do you put them during the deportation process? Transportation? Food? Medical treatment? Who pays for this idea? Other things to ponder. Who is left to: cut the lawns, do the landscaping, clean the houses and sweep and mop the floors in the office buildings, change the diapers, feed and burp the babies of the affluent, cook the food in the restaurants, wash the dishes in the restaurants and generally do those jobs that most United States citizens are unwilling to do due to dislike, status and pay of those jobs. Unskilled jobs such as these and more have always been done by those in this country who need to work to survive, regardless of pay and working conditions. This country has a long history of exploiting one group or another to build and enrich this nation whether they be the slaves brought from Africa, the Irish, the Italians, Germans, Chinese and many other uneducated, poor, desperate and needy immigrants that were treated badly and through no fault of their own became indentured servants at best and chattle at worst. Latinos come in every color of the rainbow. Blond, brown, red, or black hair. Blue, green, or brown eyes. Skin of every shade. Their diverse appearance allows them to hide in plain sight, looking as if they hail from Europe, Africa or Asia. Some argue that the United States should build the Southern Wall at the border as planned. Ronald Reagan will spin in his grave. He stood next to the Berlin Wall and asked Mr. Gorbechov of the USSR to tear it down. Mexicans, who make up the largest group of Latinos in the United States, legal and illegal, along with other Latinos, have flexed their collective muscles in opposition to proposed legislation to deport the illegals and punish anyone helping them. Their rallies should scare the hell out of every politician in the country. Latinos are the largest minority group in the United States. In 40 or so years, Latinos will be the majority group in this country period. This recent immigration issue has done something that was thought immpossible, awake and empower a group of people often unseen and quiet. Hundreds of thousands of people have hit the streets to show opposition to immigration reform and to finally open the eyes of all Americans to the fact that they are here and that is a growing reality that is not going to change. When a group of people feel threaten they are often called to action. If this issue continues to unite Latinos, they will be THE political force to reckon with and the voters to court.
Si Se Puede! Yes we can!
And one more addition, Fuck Castro
